Why You Need To Become Rich by RAJ001

Why aim to get rich?

We've all heard the old expression "money can't buy happiness", is it true? Please allow me a few moments to give you my views on money and why I think that becoming rich is an essential goal for each and every one of you.

Throughout the ages the philosophers have tried to determine what the purpose of life is, and what we should be doing with our short time on this earth. If we knew those answers then we would know for certain where money should fit in to our lives.

I don't know the answers to these questions but it makes more sense to me to enjoy life than to suffer. So I follow the guiding principle "Life is meant to be enjoyed. It's simply a matter of finding out how and then doing it." This principle is the basis of my argument that becoming rich is a worthwhile goal.

It is a fact of life in our western society that a degree of wealth allows greater opportunity for enjoying life. For a start if you are financially independent, (that is you have a passive income such that you don't need to work), then you are the master of your time. Time is the only truly limited resource in the world since no matter how rich you are there are still only 24 hours in a day.

If you sleep for 8 hours and spend another 3 hours eating, dressing, showering etc. then you are left with only 13 hours. If you need to work then you may spend 8 of those remaining hours working and another 1 or 2 traveling to and from work. If you also spend an average of 1 hour a day on domestic duties then you are now down to 3 hours in which to spend time with your family, socialise, pursue your hobbies and interests and generally enjoy life.

Being in the financial position where you do not need to work and where you can pay others to do your domestic duties can free up that whole 13 hours for the sole use of enjoying your life. That's an extra 10 hours per day. If we multiplied that by the 250 days in a typical working year we are gaining 2,500 extra hours a year in which to enjoy life.

But how would we spend that time. After all a typical unemployed or retired person also has plenty of spare time but they usually can't afford to do many of the things that would enhance their lives. You need more than just the minimum money to allow you to quit your job. You need enough money to give you the freedom to do what you like, when you when you want to do it.

If you want to travel you need the money to travel. If you want to study you need the money to study. If you want a nice car or home or boat or whatever you need the money to buy those things. If you want to donate to charity then you need the money to do that. In other words to really get the most out of this wonderful opportunity that we call life you really need to become rich!

The self-made rich have decided that being rich is a worthwhile goal to pursue and achieve. It makes sense for you to make wealth creation a serious priority in your life too.
